Fans always post “Home is a COIN show,” and I finally got to experience what they meant this past Friday. COIN kicked off a small run of tour dates at The Underground in Charlotte, North Carolina to a room full of dancing, good-time-having, dedicated fans. It was one of the best concerts I have been to and was a beautiful reminder of why I love live music so much.
Mr. Brightside played over the speakers and fans were singing along until the lights went out, insinuating COIN was about to take the stage. The band opened with their newest release, “Simple Romance” and the fans right at the barricade were going wild - I got hit in the head by a dancing fan and I just gave them the biggest grin; it was beautiful to witness them so in the moment.
They played many fan favorites such as “Talk Too Much,” which myself and those around me jumped up and down for the entirety of, and “Malibu 1992” to slow things down. Lead singer, Chase Lawrence, is all about those fan interactions - jumping off of the stage many times and standing on the barricade. For a finale of the show, his stage crew quickly took off any gear he was wearing and he jumped into the crowd, trusting the fans would lift him up around the room.
Venues see many different bands and phenomenal sets, but I’m sure that the COIN show that took place on October 19th, 2018 will be one of the best The Underground ever sees. Thank you, COIN, for a beautiful concert that I woke up sore from due to dancing way too much.
